About the Role

We are looking for a Director of Economic Growth and Infrastructure (EGI) within Tetra Tech International Development, Europe. EGI is one of our key practice areas and the role has responsibility for overseeing, managing and mentoring a team of approx. 15 in-house staff, based in the UK and other locations, as well as overseeing large in-country teams working on our various projects. The role is responsible for managing and delivering the current EGI project portfolio (which contains numerous large projects ranging from £10-£50m) and growing this over time through effective business development.

The role requires someone who can bring technical expertise and thought leadership to our projects, as well as existing client relationships. It needs someone who can build networks, both externally with other partner firms, and internally across wider Tetra Tech.

The role reports to the Managing Director and operates as part of the 6-person senior leadership team (Managing Director, Practice Directors, BD Director, Finance Director) which is responsible for driving strategy and overall business performance at Tetra Tech International Development Europe.

Requirements

Extensive experience in the international development consulting industry, ideally in a practice leadership / deputy leadership position.

Strong leadership and management skills - strong communication, influencing and negotiation skills, ability to bring people together, decisiveness, analytical and critical thinking, strategic thinking, problem solving and multi-tasking skills.

Technical expertise in Economic Growth and Infrastructure related topics with an ability to quickly assimilate new facts and apply expertise to new situations and scenarios, both on projects and bids.

A focus on delivering quality results, evidenced by successful delivery of overseas projects funded by the FCDO or other relevant donors, and a willingness to ‘roll up the sleeves’ and get involved as needed including travel when required.

Business Development expertise – experience of winning new large contracts, writing proposals and strategically driving the BD process through identification, positioning and proposal development.

Commercial Acumen – Understanding of financial drivers at a project and corporate level, with good commercial judgement on tough decisions.

Strong collaboration skills – Experience working in a wider leadership team, managing multi-disciplinary teams in the field, developing a network of internal and external client relationships.

Excellent written and spoken English and the right to work in the UK.
